Ryton Pools Country Park

If you’re looking for somewhere to go during the Summer, Ryton Pools has lots going on! With something suitable for every age, plenty of play equipment and paths you can ride along for miles and daily activities to keep you busy.

We headed out to Ryton Pools this morning knowing that the weather could turn at any minute but we decided to give it a try! Ryton Pools is a 100 acre park with great facilities including two play areas, toilets and plenty of bike riding paths to explore!

We have a ten year old, 8 year old and four year old and Ryton is one of the best places we’ve found that suits all the ages.

If you’re planning to head there you’ll need £3.50 in change to get in through the barrier, this is for all day parking.

Once you’ve parked your car you can head to the visitors centre where there are activity packs for all ages for £2 each, on completion of the packs the children receive a badge. There is also a cafe & toilet facilities here.

There are two trails to complete at Ryton Pools this Summer, the first is a Pirate themed, Cursed Coin Trail, perfect for smaller children due to the length. The children get to stamp a card when they pass certain parts of the trail and play on lots of different equipment such as a pirate ship and a sand pit!

The second activity pack is jammed full of fun for slightly older children with word searches etc. Again, £2 and worth doing if you’re looking for something to keep the children focussed.

There are two playgrounds at Ryton Pools, the first is a Pirate Cove with loads of play equipment to climb, swing & jump on. See the pictures below.

A short walk past the stunning lake is the second playground. This one much larger with a huge slide and zip wire and again climbing equipment. Some more pictures below, apologies for the gloomy-ness of them, it was a grey day, but as you can see, we still had all the fun!

We always spend a long time in this playground letting the children explore. Afterwards we went off on a scooter ride along the long pathways, picking blackberries on our way round.

If you visit Ryton on a Sunday or a Bank Holiday Monday you’ll find the miniature train, which you can take a ride on too!

Rides commence on Sunday 2nd April and run from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm and then continue on all Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday afternoons until Sunday 24th September, subject to weather conditions.
£1 per ride, with accompanied children under 3 free of charge.
